CEC 2024 Circuit Design Assistant

Source → protection → conductors → controls → load

Engineering screening tool — not a complete CEC compliance determination. Green means the displayed numerical check passes its stated assumptions. Amber checks remain unresolved. References are paraphrased, not quotations from CSA C22.1:24. This file does not contain a verified complete licensed 2024 rule database; verify tables, exceptions, equipment instructions and provincial amendments before construction.

A managed feeder limit does not automatically reduce an individual EV branch rating. The DC charger example models its AC input.

Equipment bonding provides a continuous metallic fault-return path to the source bonding point. Earth is not the normal fault-return conductor.

Limited screening values for Tables 2 / 4; not a verified complete 2024 table. Small-conductor overcurrent limits are separate. For example, 8 AWG Cu is 50 A at 75°C and 6 AWG Cu is 65 A at 75°C.

Validation & code references

Scope and source references

This implementation screens one radial circuit, one conductor set per phase, and copper equipment bonding. It does not certify services, diverse-load feeders, parallel conductors, hazardous locations, emergency systems, transformer protection, raceway fill, fault duty, selective coordination, arc flash, harmonics or complete control wiring. No overall construction-compliance verdict is issued.

Motor percentages are preliminary for conventional squirrel-cage motor applications. VFD, soft-start, reversing and star–delta assemblies require manufacturer-specific engineering. Voltage drop uses resistance at 75°C and unity power factor; AC reactance and starting conditions are excluded. Bonding suggestions are explicitly preliminary and always require actual Table 16 verification.

CEC 2024 Circuit Design Assistant — Electrical Design Checks

Screen CEC 2024 circuit designs with conductor, protection, grounding, motor, EV and control checks, diagrams and local JSON/SVG exports.

What this tool does

This local electrical design assistant screens one radial circuit through configurable supply, load, conductor, protection, grounding, motor, EV, transformer and control fields. It updates a source-to-load component map, validation findings, a single-line diagram and an illustrative power/control schematic as the design changes.

Who this is for

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a circuit application template such as general branch, EV, motor, lighting, fixed heat or custom
  2. Edit the supply, load, breaker, conductor, raceway, grounding and installation fields in the parameter panels
  3. Review the status cards, calculation basis, conductor comparison and source-to-load component map
  4. Switch between the single-line and power/control drawings, then click symbols or components for local settings and references
  5. Save or restore a design locally, export JSON, print a PDF, or download the generated SVG diagrams

Inputs

Inputs include circuit type, supply configuration, load and continuity, breaker and overcurrent protection, conductor size/material/temperature/raceway, length, ambient temperature, current-carrying conductors, grounding and bonding, transformer options, motor controls, EV management and related design checks.

Outputs

Outputs include calculated design values, pass/adjust/review statuses, code-reference findings, conductor comparisons, a component map, single-line diagram, power/control schematic, printable summary, JSON project file and SVG drawing exports.

Limitations and responsible use

This is screening and documentation support, not a permit set, field measurement, certification or substitute for a qualified professional. The implementation covers one radial circuit and explicitly does not certify services, diverse-load feeders, parallel conductors, hazardous or emergency systems, transformer protection, raceway fill, fault duty, selective coordination, arc flash, harmonics or complete control wiring.

Frequently asked questions

Does this certify a circuit design?

No. It provides an engineering review aid and illustrative drawings. Verify the current CEC edition, local amendments, AHJ requirements, product data, installation conditions and professional calculations before construction.

Can I keep designs permanently?

The page can restore a project from local browser storage or a JSON file, but browser storage can be cleared. Export JSON when a portable copy is required.
